Can Someone Think They Have the Holy Spirit When They Do Not?

Yes. A person can sincerely think they have the Holy Spirit and yet not be sealed by Him. Emotion, gifts, church activity, or even ministry success are not the proof. The Holy Spirit gives a new birth, a new nature, and anchors a life to the Word in obedience and love, and He bears His fruit consistently.

- Matthew 7:21-23: Many will prophesy, cast out devils, and do mighty works in Jesus’ Name, yet He says, “I never knew you.” So gifts and power are not the evidence of the Spirit’s indwelling.
- Matthew 25:1-12: All ten were “virgins” with lamps, but the foolish had no oil. They thought they were ready, but the door was shut. Lamps without oil is profession without the Spirit.
- Hebrews 6:4-6: People can be enlightened, taste the heavenly gift, become partakers of the Holy Spirit’s operations, and still fall away. You can taste and not be born.
- 2 Timothy 3:5: “Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.” Form is not Life.
- 1 Corinthians 13:1-3: Tongues, prophecy, knowledge, and even sacrifice can be present, and yet without love (the nature of Christ by the Spirit), it is nothing.

- If tongues, excitement, or miracles were the guarantee, how do you explain Matthew 7:22-23? If church membership were enough, why did Jesus tell a religious leader, “You must be born again” (John 3:7)?
- The Spirit in you will agree with the Word. He wrote it. He will lead you out of sin, not excuse it; into obedience, not argument against Scripture. “He that is of God hears us” (1 John 4:6). When the clear Word confronts a life, the Holy Spirit bows to it. A contrary spirit argues with it.
- The true seal is not a momentary feeling but a continuing witness and walk—repentance, confession of Jesus Christ as God manifested in flesh (1 Timothy 3:16; 2 Corinthians 5:19), baptism in His Name, separation from sin, love for the brethren, and a hunger for all the Word, not just parts (Acts 2:38; 5:32; 1 John 3:14; Matthew 4:4).
- Real evidence is a Word-governed life. The Spirit of Truth will not deny any part of the truth. He brings a man under the Lordship of Christ and produces His character.

You see, it’s possible to be anointed and not be indwelt; to be used and not be born; to feel and not be sealed. Don’t measure by gifts, noise, or moments—measure by the new birth, the fruit, and the Word. If there’s doubt, don’t settle for a form. Come God’s simple way: repent, believe the Gospel, be baptized in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and ask God to fill and seal you with the Holy Spirit.
