Why Did the Israelites Spend 430 Years When the Prophecy to Abraham Was That They Would Spend 400 Years? Did the Prophecy Fail?

No, the prophecy did not fail. The 400 years speaks of the period of affliction of Abraham’s seed; the 430 years is the full span of their sojourning from the giving of the promise until the deliverance. God brought them out exactly on time.

- The Bible says, “Thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years” (Genesis 15:13–14). Notice the word “afflict.”

And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years, even the selfsame day…all the hosts of the LORD went out” (Exodus 12:40–41).
