Will the World End Soon?
1) Direct Answer
Yes and no. The present world system is coming to its end soon, but the earth itself will not be annihilated. The Bible shows an end of the age, a judgment by fire, and then a renewed earth under Jesus Christ’s rule.
2) Scriptural Explanation
- Jesus spoke of “the end of the world” as the consummation of the age (Matthew 24:3). He said we would know the season by clear signs: deception, wars, pestilences, earthquakes, and lawlessness; like the days of Noah and Lot—violence, immorality, and perversion (Matthew 24:4–14, 37; Luke 17:26–30). He said, “When you see these things begin to come to pass, look up… your redemption draws near” (Luke 21:25–28).
- No man knows the day or the hour (Matthew 24:36), but we are told to watch and be ready (Matthew 24:42–44; 1 Thessalonians 5:1–6).
- Scoffers will say, “All things continue as they were,” but the Word says the world that once perished by water is now reserved for fire (2 Peter 3:3–7). The elements will melt, and God will bring a new heavens and new earth wherein dwells righteousness (2 Peter 3:10–13).
- Yet the earth itself abides; God laid its foundations so it would not be removed forever (Ecclesiastes 1:4; Psalm 104:5). The “end” is the end of the present order, not the extinction of the planet.
- God once cleansed the world by water in Noah’s day; this time it will be a purification by fire, followed by Christ’s reign and the final renewal (Revelation 19–21; Romans 8:19–23).
- Before the wrath, the true Bride is caught up to meet the Lord (1 Thessalonians 4:16–17). Then come the judgments, and finally the new creation.

- The Bible distinguishes between the end of the age and the endurance of the earth. So the “world” that ends is the present sinful order.
- The signs Jesus gave line up with our day. That tells us the season is near, even if the exact day is unknown.
- God is consistent: water judgment once, fire judgment next; not to annihilate His creation, but to cleanse it and set it back under Christ.
