Is Speaking in Tongues the Initial Evidence of the Baptism of the Holy Ghost?

- The Spirit leads into all truth (John 16:13). He that is of God hears God’s Words (John 8:47; 1 John 4:6).
- Gifts without love and obedience prove nothing: “Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels… and have not charity, I am nothing” (1 Corinthians 13:1). Many will boast of gifts, yet He will say, “I never knew you” (Matthew 7:22–23).
- The Corinthians “came behind in no gift” (1 Corinthians 1:7), yet Paul called them carnal (1 Corinthians 3:1–3). So gifts are not the evidence of the new birth.

- If tongues were the initial evidence for every believer, the Bible would not plainly say, “Do all speak with tongues?” with the implied answer, No.
- Gifts can be imitated or operated without a sanctified life, but the Holy Ghost is Holy; He produces a holy life, love, and obedience to the Word.
- The baptism of the Holy Ghost is the new birth—Christ in you—and that will always line you up with Scripture and display His nature.
